Glendale's 25th Annual Gibson Jazz & Blues Festival happens this weekend, April 12th & 13th, in downtown Glendale. Among the blues acts on the bill are The Tommy Castro Band, Roomful of Blues, Mark Hummel & the Blues Survivors, Big Pete Pearson, Dave Riley & Bob Corritore, Cold Shott & the Hurricane Horns, Chuck Hall Band, Jimmy Peyton's Midnite Blues, Hans Olson, KC Blues Band, Sistah Blue, Big Daddy D & the Dynamites, and Gypsy's Juke Rockers. What an incredible lineup! Check the festival website for complete schedule and other info. The 30th annual Scottsdale Culinary Festival is more than just about food, although there will be plenty of fine grub and beverages available. Cold Shot & the Hurricane Horns is playing at the Great Arizona Picnic from 2:30 until 4:30 pm, Saturday, April 12th, at Scottsdale Civic Center Plaza. Tickets for this event are $10, available from GetTix.net. Other performers at the picnic include Chuck Hall Band and Desert Gumbo. Big Nick & the Gila Monsters perform at the event on Sunday, April 13th from 4:30 until 7:00 pm on the Amphitheatre stage. Looking ahead to the end of the month, the annual McDowell Mountain Music Festival is scheduled for Friday & Saturday, April 25th & 26th. Check the festival site for complete details. You'll notice the inclusion of PBS faves Mikel Lander & Meredith Moore in the lineup.
A benefit for Candye Kane, who is suffering from cancer, will be held at the Rhythm Room on Monday, April 14th. Doors open at 6:00 pm. Minimum donation is $10 and there will be plenty of raffles. There's an impressive array of special guests appearing, including Candye herself; check the Rhythm Room site for a complete lineup. The Rhythm Room All-Stars, with guests Big Pete Pearson and Dave Riley, will be at the Rhythm Room on Friday & Saturday, April 11th & 12th. Gypsy's Juke Rockers are doing two nights, April 11th & 12th, at Cliff Castle Casino in Camp Verde, playing each evening from 9:00 pm until 1:00 am. Jimmy Peyton's Midnite Blues will be doing their usual Friday night gig at 26th Street Blues on April 11th. Jim Glass Band heads to Prescott this weekend for shows on Friday & Saturday, April 12th & 13th at the Bird Cage on Whiskey Row. Showtime both nights is 9:00 pm. J. Powers Band is at Uncle Charlie's in Glendale on Friday & Saturday, April 11th & 12th. Both shows start at 9:00 pm. The band then heads to the Amvets Post 5 in Phoenix on Sunday, April 13th at 8:00 pm. Hans Olson continues to hold down the regular Thursday night show at Pranksters Too, Hayden & Thomas in Scottsdale, from 8:00 pm until midnight. Derrick & the Redemptors are now hosting a weekly blues jam at Jersey's Bar & Grill (Ray & Kyrene in Chandler) Saturday afternoons from 1:00 until 5:00 pm. The Smokin' Section Band is doing two Tucson gigs this weekend --- Friday, April 11th at Loew's Ventana Canyon Cascade Lounge (10:00 pm - 1:00 am) and Saturday, April 12th at Casino of the Sun (9:00 pm - 1:00 am).
