Jimmy Peyton's Midnite Blues is doing the normal Friday night show at 26th Street Blues on April 6th. Big Pete Pearson Blues Band plays the Rhythm Room on Friday, April 6th, followed the next night by a double bill with Repeat Offenders CD release party at 5:30 pm and Lady J at 9:00 pm. The blues duo of Paris James & Bob Corritore is at the Rhythm Room on Wednesday, April 11th. One Class Act travel to Sportsman's Chalet, Strawberry, on Saturday, April 7th from 8:00 pm until midnight. Bluzone, with guests Julio Franco & Eddie Blue, is at Jay's Cocktails on Saturday, April 7th. Hans Olson is at Buffalo Wild Wings, corner of Greenfield & McKellips in Mesa, on Friday, April 6th at 8:30 pm. Hans still has regular weekly gigs at 26th St. Blues from 6:00 to 10:00 pm on Wednesday nights and at Pranksters Too, SW corner of Hayden & Thomas in Scottsdale, from 8:00 pm until midnight on Thursday nights, Bad News Blues Band will be at Char's Has the Blues on Saturday, April 7th. Sage Gentle Wing, who will be releasing a new CD in about two weeks, has a full slate of gigs this week:
The winners of the annual International Songwriting Competition have been announced, with Southern Californian Jeff Turmes (bandmate and husband of Janiva Magness) taking first place in the blues category with his song "Eat The Lunch You Brought." Tucson blues legend Sam Taylor placed third with his composition "A Woman's Side Of The Bed." The second place blues song was penned by Portland's Paul deLay, who had just passed away last month. His winning entry was "Fourteen Dollars In The Bank. A complete list of winners can be viewed at the ISC website.
Live Nation presents a special benefit concert for CASA (Center for Prevention of Abuse and Violence) on Sunday, April 15th at the Dodge Theatre at 7:00 pm. Appearing will be Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Keb' Mo' and blues-rock guitar virtuoso Joe Bonamassa. Reserved tickets are $40; other special tickets are available.
