Around Town

The Fabulous Thunderbirds hit the Rhythm Room this weekend for their annual recording session, doing shows on both Friday & Saturday, January 26th & 27th. Advance tickets are $20, available at the bar or from all Ticketmaster outlets (480-784-4444).

The Rhythm Room hosts a tribute to Chico Chism on Tuesday, January 30th, hosted by the Flamekeepers. Other guests include Bob Corritore, Nightshift featuring The Chief & Tom Grills, Lynne Avril, Hans Olson, Blues Dinosaurs, Johnny Rapp, and more. Chico has had some significant health challenges of late, so come out and show your support for our own blues legend!

Hans Olson is keeping a busy schedule, with regular weekly gigs at Pranksters Too, SW corner of Hayden & Thomas in Scottsdale, from 8:00 pm until midnight on Thursday nights, and at Sugar Daddy's, Scottsdale Rd. just north of Thomas, on Sunday mornings from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm (except for 2/21 & 2/25). Hans will also be featured in special engagements at Desert Ridge Marketplace, 101 at Tatum Rd., from 7:00 until 9:00 pm on Friday, January 26th, and at the Arizona Songwriters annual gathering at Encanto Park from 3:30 to 4:00 pm.

On the subject of hectic schedules, the JC & Gypsy portion of One Class Act is at Duck & Decanter, 1652 E. Camelback Rd., from 5:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday, January 26th, before heading across the Valley to meet up with the rest of the band at the Alamo Saloon in Fountain Hills at 9:00 pm. They will return to the Alamo on Saturday, January 27th, this time without the hurried drive from another gig. Finally, the band will head up north on Sunday, January 28th for a 3:00 pm show at Pinon Pines in Prescott. Whew!

Cold Shott & the Hurricane Horns play at Mateo's Cantina at Sylvia's La Canasta on Friday, January 26th. The next night they hit the fancy resort circuit with a show at Tequila on the Rocks, located at the Buttes in Tempe, on Saturday, January 27th, from 8:30 pm until 12:30 am.

Jimmy Peyton's Midnite Blues is doing its normal Friday night gig at 26th Street Blues on January 12th.

The J. Powers Band is doing two nights at Skipper's Lounge, in Glendale, on Friday & Saturday, January 26th & 27th.
