PBS Membership Meeting

The May meeting is scheduled for Saturday, May 26th, 8:30 pm, at Jay's Cocktails, 3208 West Indian School Road, Phoenix. Appearing after the meeting will be the Chuck Ziegler Band. Free admission. We hope to see you there!
 

Around Town

Young blues harmonica sensation John Németh makes his first Phoenix appearance at the Rhythm Room on Friday, May 18th, along with superb guitarist Junior Watson --- a show not to be missed!

Sistah Blue plays the Rhythm Room on Saturday, May 19th.

Jimmy Peyton's Midnite Blues is doing the normal Friday night show at 26th Street Blues on May 18th.

Cold Shot and the Hurricane Horns is at Lake Pleasant Marina starting at 6:00 pm on Saturday, May 19th.

Honeyboy Dupree & the Smokehouse Players has a full slate of gigs this weekend, starting with the 6:00 pm dinner show at Pappadeaux's Seafood Kitchen on Friday, May 18th, and followed the next night, Saturday, May 19th, at VFW Glendale Post 1433, starting at 8:30 pm. To wrap up the weekend, the boys will be playing the pre-concert party prior to the Buddy Guy show at the Mesa Arts Center at 6:15 pm on Sunday, May 20th.

One Class Act will be at Pappadeaux's Seafood Restaurant beginning at 6:00 pm on Saturday, May 19th.

Hans Olson is doing two nights at Fatso's, in Phoenix, on Friday & Saturday, May 18th & 19th, from 6:00 until 9:00 pm. In addition, Hans is still doing his regular Wednesday night gig at 26th Street Blues and at Pranksters Too on Thursday nights.

Tucson band Smokin' Section is showing off its new guitar slinger, Randy "Ice" Prentice, this Friday, May 18th at Loew's Ventana Canyon Cascade Lounge, from 10:00 pm until 1:00 am.

The Rhythm Room will host a Chico Chism Memorial Birthday Tribute on Wednesday, May 23rd on what would have been the late blues legend's 80th birthday. Host band will be Chico's last group, The Flamekeepers, along with guests Bob Corritore, Kevin Casenhiser, Blues Dinosaurs, One Class Act, Mike Howard, Larry Dee, and more. $5 donation goes towards unpaid funeral expenses.

REMINDER: All blues shows in the state of Arizona are now non-smoking. If you've been skipping the live blues scene because of a smoke allergy or just not wanting to smell cigarette smoke all night, cigarette smoke at nightclubs is a thing of the past. So get on out and show your support for Arizona blues musicians. Remember, the music still smokes!

The Blind Boys of Alabama will be performing at the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall Amphitheatre on Friday, May 18th at 7:30 pm. Single tickets are available for $36 from the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts box office at (480) 994-ARTS (2787) or online at www.scottsdaleperformingarts.org.

Haight Guitars is hosting their first Workshop Tour at 11428 N. 64th St., Scottsdale on Saturday, May 19th from 6:30 until 8:00 pm. BBQ and refreshments will be served.
