PBS Membership Meeting

The January meeting will be held on Sunday, January 21st at Alice CoopersTown, located in downtown Phoenix, as part of a Memphis fundraiser for the two acts representing PBS in the International Blues Challenge. The show/meeting will run from 2:00 until 9:00 pm. Appearing will be:

Around Town

The big show this weekend is the CD release party for Big Pete Pearson's new disc, I'm Here Baby (Blue Witch Records), at the Rhythm Room on Friday & Saturday, January 12th & 13th.

Otis Taylor is in concert at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, January 14th at 7:30 pm.

A benefit show for Paz de Cristo is scheduled for the Rhythm Room on Sunday, January 14th, beginning at 7:00 pm. Among the performers will be Blues Dinosaurs, Itchy Brother, Ivan Harshman, Kari Maschino, Loose Cannons Blues Band featuring Luther Jackson, Sla-Day, and more. Donation is $10.

Big Al's, 717 S. Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ, and the Friends of Indigent Defense will be hosting a benefit on Saturday, January 13th for the Gideon Indigent Defense Fellowship. Music by the Zellnotes from 7:00 - 11:00 pm. Doors open at 5:00 pm. $5.00 cover.

National recording artist Larry McCray performs in concert at the Rhythm Room on Wednesday, January 17th. Tickets are $10 each.

Cold Shott & the Hurricane Horns play at Mateo's Cantina at Sylvia's La Canasta on Friday, January 12th. The Cold Shott guys are also one of several blues bands playing on Sunday morning at the PF Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Marathon; also appearing along the race route are Big Daddy D & The Dynamites, L'il Debbie and Blue Plate Special, James Kole Band, and the Arizona Rotary Blues Band.

One Class Act head north to Sportsman Chalet in Strawberry for a gig on Saturday, January 13th starting at 9:00 pm.

Chuck Hall Band is at Char's Has the Blues on Friday, January 12th, followed the next night, Saturday, January 13th by Bad News Blues Band.

Jimmy Peyton's Midnite Blues is doing its normal Friday night gig at 26th Street Blues on January 12th.

Bluzone is at Donna Jean's Libations, 6676 W. Bell Rd., Glendale, on Friday, January 12th at 9:00 pm.

The Smoking Section plays two nights at the Westward Look Resort, N. of Ina Road and E. of Oracle in Tucson, on Friday & Saturday, January 12th & 13th from 8:30 until 11:30 pm.

Looking for an experienced drummer for a gigging blues band. We have rehearsals at East Valley location (Cooper/Riggs Rd) twice a month on the weekends. We do mostly local festivals, non-smoky clubs and benefits. Contact: casjammers@cox.net for further info. KEEPING THE BLUES ALIVE!!

Blues Blast is coming!

BLUES BLAST 2007 is scheduled for February 25, 2007 at the Mesa Amphitheatre.

Sista Monica will headline this year's Blues Blast, the 16th annual event. Also appearing will be Albert Cummings, Zac Harmon, Big Nick & the Gila Monsters, Tommy Dukes and the Soul Kings, and Mikel Lander.

Tickets are now on sale. PBS members were mailed an order form for tickets at the special PBS members price.
