Blues Blast 2006 is almost here! The show will take place at the Mesa Amphitheatre from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm on Sunday, February 26th. Check the Blues Blast website for complete info, including news of a full weekend of blues events around town.

Headlining Blues Blast 2006 is the ever-popular Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flyers, along with Bay Area favorites Tommy Castro Band and Chicago singer Nora Jean Bruso.

Also on show will be Tucson legend Sam Taylor, Arizona Blues Showdown winners Tom Walbank and the Ambassadors, and Danny Rhodes.

PBS members and friends can purchase discounted tickets from the Society by sending email to info@phoenixblues.org.

 Directions to Blues Blast

The Mesa Amphitheatre is located at 201 N. Center Street in Mesa, at the intersection of Center and University.

From Phoenix's Sky Harbor Airport and Central Phoenix

Take Rte. 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) east to the Alma School Road exit. Turn right on Alma School Road, and go 1.6 miles to University Drive, and turn left. Proceed on University for 1.5 miles, turn right on Center Street, and take an immediate left into the parking lot.

From I-10

From I-10, take Rte. 60 (Superstition Freeway) eastbound towards Mesa. Exit at Country Club (exit 179) and turn left. Follow Country Club for 2 miles to Main Street and turn right. Take Main for .5 miles to Center Street and turn left. Follow Center for .25 miles, then turn right into the parking lot.

Friday, February 24

  • Free acoustic concert at Virgin Megastore, Arizona Mills Mall, Tempe from 6:00 until 6:45 pm, featuring Kevin Casenheiser

  • Blues Blast Kickoff Party with Janiva Magness, at the Rhythm Room

Saturday, February 25

  • Blues Blast Pre-Party with the legendary Billy Boy Arnold, with opening set by The Rhythm Room All-Stars featuring Big Pete Pearson, at the Rhythm Room

Sunday, February 26

  • Blues Blast AfterParty and Celebrity Jam hosted by Johnny Rawls, at the Rhythm Room

 

Blues Blast spectator tips

Children 12 and under are always free at Blues Blast. Coolers or outside food and beverages may not be brought into the Amphitheatre, but sealed bottles of water are permitted. Concessions from the Honey Bear's Barbeque and the City of Mesa will be available for purchase. CDs from the performers will be available. Bring a blanket for festival seating ... lawn chairs are OK in selected areas of the Amphitheatre. Video cameras are not permitted, but still cameras may be used. Remember to bring your sunscreen!
