PBS Membership Meeting

The October meeting is set for Saturday, October 14th, with a special membership event at Alice CoopersTown, 7:00 pm. The event will feature three great bands --- Cold Shott & The Hurricane Horns, Honeyboy Dupree & the Smokehouse Players, and Big Daddy D & The Dynamites. Admission for PBS members will be only $5. This is an all-ages show!

 

 

Around Town

If you get this note in time, Honeyboy Dupree and the Smokehouse Players will be on the Channel 10 morning show on Friday, October 13th, from 8:00 - 9:00 am.

Chico Chism and the Flamekeepers will be appearing at the El Dorado Bar & Grill  on Saturday, October 14th from 8:30 pm -12:30 am.

Sub-Culture Cafe is hosting a 2nd anniversary celebration on Tuesday, October 17th. Appearing will be: 7:00 pm - Atomist, 8:00 pm - Paris James, 9:30 pm - Blues Times Two.

The Rhythm Room All-Stars play at the Rhythm Room on Friday, October 13th. One of the hottest blues piano players in the business, David Maxwell,  joins them for this show.

George Bowman's Rhythm & Blues Revue rolls into the Rhythm Room on Saturday, October 14th.

One Class Act is earning their reputation this weekend as one of the hardest working bands in town. You can catch them on Friday, October 13th, at Skipper's Lounge, on Saturday, October 14th at both the Spirit Room in Jerome (2:00 - 6:00 pm) and at Smokin' Harleys in Mayer (9:00 pm - 1:00 am), and finally back at the Spirit Room on Sunday, October 15th from 2:00 - 6:00 pm.

Jimmy Peyton's Midnite Blues is at 26th Street Blues, 2547 E. Indian School Rd., on Friday, October 13th.

Blues Times Two is at Pier 54, 5934 S. Lakeshore Dr., Tempe on Saturday, October 14th.

Hans Olson is still holding down the regular Thursday night gig at Pranksters Too, at the southwest corner of Hayden and Thomas in Scottsdale.

The weekly Blues Brunch at Stinkweed's, 12 W. Camelback, Phoenix, is back. Appearing each week from noon until 2:00 pm are Mikel Lander and special guests.

 

Tucson blues

There's lots of blues in Tucson this weekend with the Southern Arizona Blues Heritage Foundation Festival taking place on Sunday, October 15th, from 10:30 am to 7:30 pm in Reid Park, Tucson. Appearing will be Marcia Ball, Scott Holt, Big Pete Pearson & the Rhythm Room All-Stars, Hans Olson, Leon Kittrell & Statesboro, The King Bees, Triple Threat, and the Apocalypse Horns. Best of all --- it's free!

Check the ABHF website for details on a Saturday night party and a festival eve shindig, plus all of the pertinent festival info.

 

New blues jams

There are two new blues jams in town: Every other Tuesday night at Donna Jean's Libations, 6676 W. Bell Rd., Glendale, and Thursday nights at Lil' Mama's Soul Cafe, 4306 N. 7th Ave., Phoenix. For a complete listing of jams in the Phoenix area, check Ray Ray's blues jam site.

The 16th annual Arizona Blues Showdown is scheduled for November 12th & 19th at the Rhythm Room. Entry forms and contest rules are now available online.

This year's event will also include a "Best Self-Produced CD Contest" --- info now available for download.
