PBS Membership Meeting

The September meeting will be held on Saturday, September 16th at 8:30 at the El Dorado Bar & Grill. One Class Act will be performing after the meeting. Free admission! If you haven't seen this band in a while, be sure to check them out after the meeting or at one of their many other gigs around the Valley.

The October meeting is set for Saturday, October 14th, with a special membership event at Alice CoopersTown, 7:00 pm. The event will feature three great bands --- Cold Shott & The Hurricane Horns, Honeyboy Dupree & the Smokehouse Players, and Big Daddy D & The Dynamites. Admission for PBS members will be only $5.

 

 

 

Around Town

One Class Act has two other gigs this weekend in addition to the Saturday PBS meeting. The band will be at Geordie's at Wrigley Mansion on Friday, September 15th from 7:00 until 11:00, and at Smokin' Harleys, in Mayer, for the Sunday Bike Run & Fun on September 17th from 3:00 to 7:00 pm.

Honeyboy Dupree and the Smokehouse Players, with guest drummer Adam Clark, are playing at the Kokopelli Winery, in Chandler, from 6:30 until 9:30 pm on Friday, September 15th.

Jimmy Peyton's Midnite Blues is at 26th Street Blues, 2547 E. Indian School Rd., on Friday, September 15th.

Paris James is the main performer at a benefit for the Robert Johnson Foundation at the Rhythm Room on Tuesday, September 19th at 9:00 pm. Advance tickets, available at the bar, are $5, and $7 on the day of the show.

Bluzone is at Duke's Roadhouse, in Dewey, on Friday, September 15th, and at Jay's Cocktails on Saturday, September 16th.

Ribald singer Candye Kane brings her always interesting show to town this weekend for a concert at the Rhythm Room on Friday, September 15th.

Sistah Blue will be at the Rhythm Room on Saturday, September 16th.

Hans Olson is still holding down the regular Thursday night gig at Pranksters Too, at the southwest corner of Hayden and Thomas in Scottsdale.

Blues Cubed is doing a special show at La Mision de San Miguel, 335 McKeown Ave. in Patagonia, on Saturday, September 16th at 7:00 pm. Admission is only $5.

 

 

Vital blues news

The second annual Bisbee Blues Festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 23rd. For complete information, check their site at www.bisbeebluesfestival.com.

Bob Corritore is heading to our nation's capital this weekend to perform with blues piano legend Henry Gray on a couple of shows at the famous Kennedy Center. Gray is being honored with a fellowship award from the National Endowment for the Arts.

PBS Events

Mark your calendar now for Back Porch in the Pines, scheduled for September 30th at the beautiful new Pine Mountain Amphitheater in Flagstaff. The show, to be held from 11:00 am until 5:30 pm, will feature Dan Treanor and African Wind, Janiva Magness with Scotty Spenner, Eden Brent, Danny Rhodes, Grams & Krieger, and Soulcatcher.

Tickets are available on-line at www.pinemountainamphitheater.com for $17.00 in advance ($15.00 ticket plus $2.00) and $20.00 day of show ($18.00 ticket plus $2.00).  Tickets can also be purchased locally in Flagstaff at the Orpheum Box Office, The Animas Trading Company, Rainbow's End and Gopher Sounds.  The Orpheum Box Office can be reached directly by calling 928-556-1580.

The 16th annual Arizona Blues Showdown is scheduled for November 12th & 19th at the Rhythm Room. Entry forms and contest rules are now available online.
