The April meeting is scheduled for Sunday, April 10th at 1:00 pm in the courtyard at Stinkweeds Music, 12 W. Camelback, Phoenix. There will be a performance by Mikel Lander, and guests, beginning at 12:00 noon, so plan to show up early for the music. The last time we had a meeting at Stinkweeds turned out to be a lot of fun, and a very nice change of pace from our regular meeting format.
Sun Sounds annual Great Arizona Blues Festival is scheduled for April 2nd & 3rd at the Arizona Center. Among the blues acts on this year's show are Big Nick & The Gila Monsters, Uvon & the Amazing Blues Wizards and Honeyboy Dupree & the Smokehouse Players. For more info or to buy tickets online, check the festival website at www.azbeer.com. IMPORTANT UPDATE! PBS members can get a $5 discount at the gate by presenting this coupon (pdf format). If you haven't yet received a membership card (sorry, we're behind in getting out the latest batch of cards), they will accept the coupon with your word that you are a Phoenix Blues Society member.

Their first gig isn't scheduled until May, but keep an eye on their web site for updates.
Our own local blues heroines, Sistah Blue, have been invited by the Stax Museum of American Soul to perform on June 4th at Studio A, in Memphis, for a celebration of women blues and soul singers. This gig came about because of the Sistahs appearance in the International Blues Challenge, in which they represented Arizona by winning the Phoenix Blues Society's Arizona Blues Showdown last November.
