PBS Membership Meeting

The November meeting will be held on Friday, November 18, beginning at 7:00 pm, at Skipper's, 6124 N. 43rd Ave., Glendale. Appearing will be The Lynwood Flyers and The Groove Defenders.

Members can see two great acts for only $2 (nonmembers $8), so this is a great opportunity to become a member or renew your membership. Nonmembers can join PBS at the door and see the show for $2, plus all new members will receive a prize.

Music and giveaways begin at 7:00 pm, with official Phoenix Blues Society business at 7:45. Acts will alternate throughout the evening with a joint performance during the final set. T-shirts, hats, travel mugs, keychains and more will be on sale and given away throughout the night along with CDs and other prizes. Everyone who signs up or renews membership (It costs $15 to sign up or renew) at the door instantly receives member pricing on admission and PBS merchandise. Admission is only $2 for members ($8 nonmembers). Bring a new member and get in FREE!

We are seeking acts, clubs, and other potential venues to host upcoming shows. We are also seeking your ideas, suggestions, and feedback to create fun, exciting events that will benefit the entire blues community. Around Town

One Class Act is playing at Rocket J's in Tucson on Friday, November 18th, and at Pat Murphy's on Saturday, November 19th.

Cold Shott & The Hurricane Horns head to the mountains for a pre-Thanksgiving party at he Crown King Saloon on Saturday, November 19th. Showtime is at 8:00 pm.

Les Izmore will make a return appearance to The Boathouse, 5394 S. Lakeshore Drive in Tempe, on Saturday, November 19th from 7:00 until 10:00 pm

The Chuck Ziegler Band, one of the finalists in the Arizona Blues Showdown, is appearing at Jay's Cocktails on Saturday, November 19th from 9:00 pm until 1:00 am.

Mississippi artist Daniel "Slick" Ballinger, with harpist extraordinaire Blind Mississippi Morris, visit the Rhythm Room on Tuesday, November 22nd.

Loose Cannons Blues Band is playing every Friday and Saturday at the Wigwam Grill on the Greens, located at 300 Wigwam Boulevard in Litchfield Park, from 6:00 until 10:00 pm.

Looking ahead, guitar hero Joe Bonamassa will be at Martini Ranch in Scottsdale on Tuesday, November 29th, beginning at 8:00 pm. Advance tickets for $20 are available at all Ticketmaster outlets (480-784-4444).

 

Great news for reptile fans!

One of our favorite Phoenix bands of all time, Big Nick & The Gila Monsters, was just named Best Blues Band in the The Rep's Best of 2005. Well deserved, guys!

Showdown results

Congratulations to Tom Walbank and the Ambassadors, of Tucson, for winning the 15th annual Arizona Blues Showdown. The threesome will now represent Arizona in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in late January.

Danny Rhodes, of Cottonwood, finished second. He will also compete in the International Blues Challenge as the designated entry in the Solo/Duo competition.

Finishing third was The Jane Crowe Band, of Tucson. Other finalists were The Chuck Ziegler Band, Jim Glass Band, and Mikel Lander.

Watch for news about benefits being held around the state to help both acts get to Memphis!
