PBS Membership
Meeting

The February membership meeting will be held at the Rhythm Room on Thursday, February 10th, beginning at 7:30 pm. Appearing in concert after the meeting will be J.D. Simo.

Blues Blast tickets, VIP tickets, posters and flier will be available at the meeting! We hope to see you there.

Around Town

Everyone's favorite hepcats, Big Nick & The Gila Monsters, are playing the Rhythm Room this Friday, February 4th.

Sistah Blue will be at the Rhythm Room on Friday, February 11th, just after returning from their trip to Memphis to participate in the International Blues Challenge.

Poppy and the Usual Suspects will be at Roadrunner, I-17 & the New River exit, on Saturday, February 5th from 9:00 pm until 1:00 am.

The J. Powers Band, featuring the musical talents of Pete Mello, Dr. Fish, Willis Warren, John Chodos and Joann Powers, are doing two nights at Dillon's Restaurant, 8706 W. Thunderbird Rd., Peoria, on Friday, February 4th and Saturday, February 5th. Showtime each night is 6:00 pm.

Cold Shott & The Hurricane Horns are playing at CK's Tavern & Grill on Saturday, February 5th for a Mardi Gras celebration and pre-Super Bowl Bash. The following weekend, the Cold Shott guys will be at Barcelona's on Friday, February 11th from 8:00 pm until 12:30 am.

Honeyboy Dupree & the Smokehouse Players, featuring Jim Glass on guitar, are hosting a big Mardi Gras party at Pappadeux's Seafood Restaurant, 11501 N. Black Canyon Highway in Phoenix from 4:00 until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 8th.

Lil' Debbie & Blue Plate Special will be at Territorial Bar & Grill in Cave Creek on Friday, February 11th and Saturday, February 12th.

Desert Voodoo is doing a two-night gig at Seamus McCaffery's Pub, 18 W. Monroe St, Phoenix, on Friday, February 11th and Saturday, February 12th.

Down in Tucson, The Smoking Section Band, has gigs at Acacia at St. Phillips, 4340 N. Campbell, on Thursday, February 4th from 6:00 until 9:00 pm, at Old Pueblo Grill at Foothills Mall - Ina/LaCholla, on Friday, February 5th from 7:00 until 10:30 pm, and then back at Acacia at St. Phillips on Saturday, February 6th from 7:00 until 10:00 pm.

In Concert

The always exciting Boneshakers, featuring singer extraordinaire Sweet Pea Atkinson, will be at the Rhythm Room this Saturday, February 5th.

A special benefit is being held on Sunday, February 13th from 2:00 until 9:00 pm to help longtime Phoenix drummer Mike Cole. The event will be held at Bud Brown's Barn, 909 E. Northern Ave. in Phoenix. There will be approximately 30 to 40 musicians performing Country, Blues, R&B, Soul and Jazz throughout the event. Among the acts performing are Cold Shott & The Hurricane Horns and The Jim Glass Band. Donations can be made at the event, or cash donations can be made at any Bank of America branch:  Account # 4659208916.

Sunday, February 27th - Blues Blast 2005 (An annual PBS event for 13 consecutive years and the first outdoor blues festival of the calendar year. View more information about Blues Blast and the roster of internationally-known blues musicians who have appeared there through the Phoenix Blues Society website). Appearing at Blues Blast 2005 will be Bettye LaVette, Little Charlie and the Nightcats, Michael Burks, Hans Olson, Sistah Blue and Jim Glass Band.

One of many Tucson bands that were introduced to Phoenix blues fans during last November's Arizona Blues Showdown is introducing a new web site this week. The Night Owls, that band with the hot teenaged players, are now online at www.thenightowlsbluesband.com.

Local singer/guitarist Frank Ace reports that he's got a new CD, containing 11 original songws, coming soon. The title is "Cry U Outta My Heart" and it should be on sale by Valentine's Day. You can order it online at www.frankace.com.
