The August meeting will be held on Saturday, August 6 at Billy Bob’s Saloon, 2017 N. Scottsdale Rd., Scottsdale, featuring Common Ground Blues Band and Bluzone. Members can see two great acts for only $2 (nonmembers $8), so this is a great opportunity to become a member or renew your membership. Nonmembers can join PBS at the door and see the show for $2, plus all new members will receive a prize. Music and giveaways begin at 7:00 pm, with official Phoenix Blues Society business at 7:45. Acts will alternate throughout the evening with a joint performance during the final set. T-shirts, hats, travel mugs, keychains and more will be on sale and given away throughout the night along with CDs and other prizes. Everyone who signs up or renews membership (It costs $15 to sign up or renew) at the door instantly receives member pricing on admission and PBS merchandise. Admission is only $2 for members ($8 nonmembers). Bring a new member and get in FREE! We are seeking acts, clubs, and other potential venues to host upcoming shows. We are also seeking your ideas, suggestions, and feedback to create fun, exciting events that will benefit the entire blues community. One Class Act will be at Schmedly's, 10213 N. Scottsdale Rd. on Friday, August 5th from 9:00 pm until 1:00 am and at CK’s on Saturday, August 6th from 9:30 pm until 1:30 am. OCA will be the host band for the next Sunday Showcase at the Rhythm Room on August 7th beginning at 8:00 pm. Cold Shott & The Hurricane Horns will be at Shenanigan's on Friday, August 5th from 8:30 pm until 12:30 pm. The following weekend the gang will be playing Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino on Friday, August 12th and at Lake Pleasant Marina on Saturday, August 13th at 7:00 pm to help celebrate National Marina Day. Desert Voodoo is doing two nights at Pat Murphy's on Friday, August 5th and Saturday, August 6th. An upcoming gig has the band at Seamus McCaffrey's, 18 W. Monroe, on Friday, August 12th at 9:00 pm.
Coming this week, Thursday, August 4th, to the Rhythm Room is a Crescent City spectacular, featuring New Orleans greats Cyril Neville with his full band, and special guests Big Chief Monk Boudreaux and Gaynel Neville. Advance tickets, from Ticketmaster (480-784-4444) and at the bar, are $18. Day of show price will be $22. Showtime at 8:00 pm. Big Al's, 717 S. Central Ave., is featuring blues and rockabilly bands each Saturday night. Johnny Wheel & the Locamotives are there on August 6th, with the Top Cats coming in on August 13th.
The first Bisbee Blues Festival, sponsored by the Bisbee Arts Commission, is scheduled for August 20th from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm.

Ticket prices are $12 in advance and $15 the day of the event. Tickets will be available online through the website, at the Bisbee Visitor Center, Bisbee Chamber of Commerce and Atalanta’s Music & Books. Food and beverages will be available at the event as well as commemorative festival t-shirts and posters. Several of the bands will be playing at other venues in Old Bisbee later that same evening. Artists include Gladys Knight and Etta James, as well as Robert Cray, Bobby Womack, Blind Boys of Alabama, Eddie Cotton, John Mayall, Bobby Rush, Clarence Carter and Sista Monica. The next big PBS event will be our annual Back Porch Blues, scheduled for Sunday, August 28th at the Rhythm Room. Appearing will be Fat Possum recording artist Robert Belfour. Also appearing will be Hans Olson, Paris James & Bob Corritore, and Tom Walbank and the Ambassadors. The show will start at 6:00 pm.
Tickets on the day of the show will be $12. Advance tickets for $10 can be ordered by mail from the Phoenix Blues Society, P.O. Box 36874, Phoenix, AZ 85067; send a check or money order and a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Mail orders must be postmarked by August 20th. You can also pay by PayPal by sending a payment to info@phoenixblues.org; be sure to indicate that the payment being made is for Back Porch Blues tickets.

Common Ground Blues Band reports that they are getting some good pub in France, this week being featured on the internet radio show MS Blues. Their upcoming appearance at the PBS August meeting got a mention on the site's On Stage page. Bob Corritore recently put together an All-Star Blues package to play at the Marco Fiume Memorial Blues Passions Festival in Rossano, Italy on July 22nd - 24th. In the band were Big Pete Pearson, Brian Fahey, Lisa Otey, Paul Thomas and Bob. The band was well received. Chief Schabuttie Gillame recently was recognized by the readers poll of France's top blues magazine, Soul Bag, as best release by a new artist for his CD "Snakes Crawls At Night." ------------------------------------------
