The Phoenix Blues Society presents the first all new Monthly Membership Event on Saturday, July 23. Live music all night with alternating sets from Jimmy Peyton's Midnite Blues and Scotty Spenner with Mikel Lander at Big Al’s, 717 South Central Avenue, Phoenix. Music and giveaways begin at 7:00 pm, with official
Phoenix Blues Society business at 7:45. Acts will alternate throughout
the evening with a joint performance during the final set. T-shirts,
hats, travel mugs, keychains and more will be on sale and given away
throughout the night along with CDs and other prizes. Everyone who signs
up or renews membership (It costs $15 to sign up or renew) at the door
instantly receives member pricing on admission and PBS merchandise.
Admission is only $2 for members ($8 nonmembers). Bring a new member and
get in FREE! Membership events will feature at least two different blues acts and will be held at various locations throughout the metro Phoenix area. At the low price of $2, it’s a great opportunity to support local live music and enjoy an evening of entertainment every month. One Class Act will be at Pat Murphy's for two nights on Friday, July 15th and Saturday, July 16th. Desert Voodoo is playing at Seamus McCaffrey's, 18 W. Monroe, on Friday, July 15th. Honey Boy Dupree & the Smokehouse Players, with special guest Jim Glass, will be at Pappadeaux's Seafood Restaurant on Friday, July 15th. Common Ground Blues Band will be on stage at Shenanigan's on Saturday, July 16th. The Blueshounds are playing Jay's Cocktails on Saturday, July 16th. Jay's is also hosting a new Tuesday night jam session featuring the Rocket 88s. Lil' Debbie & Blue Plate Special will be at Shenanigan's on Friday, July 22nd. Cold Shott & The Hurricane Horns' next gig is on Saturday, July 23rd, at CK’s, beginning at 9:30 pm. The Smoking Section has its next Tucson show on Friday, July 15th at the Frog & Firkin, University & Euclid. Important upcoming shows at the Rhythm Room include a send-off for the Rhythm Room All-Stars on Friday, July 15th & Saturday, July 16th, as the band prepares for their tour of Italy. A 7:00 pm benefit will be held on Sunday, July 17th for harmonica star Bill Tarsha, who was recently injured in an auto accident; appearing will be the Rocket 88s, One Class Act, Ray Ray, and more. Looking ahead to next month, a show NOT to be missed at the Rhythm Room will happen on August 4th, featuring New Orleans greats Cyril Neville with his full band, and special guests Big Chief Monk Boudreaux and Gaynel Neville. Advance tickets, from Ticketmaster (480-784-4444) and at the bar, are $18. Day of show price will be $22. Showtime at 8:00 pm.

The next big PBS event will be our annual Back Porch Blues, scheduled for Sunday, August 28th at the Rhythm Room. Appearing will be Fat Possum recording artist Robert Belfour. Other acts and complete details will be announced in the next issue of Blues News Online.

The first Bisbee Blues Festival, sponsored by the Bisbee Arts Commission, is scheduled for August 20th from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm.
The lineup is:
Ticket prices are
$12 in advance and $15 the day of the event. Tickets will be
available online through the website, at the Bisbee Visitor Center,
Bisbee Chamber of Commerce and Atalanta’s Music & Books. Food and
beverages will be available at the event as well as commemorative
