The October membership meeting will be held at the Rhythm Room on Saturday, October 23rd, beginning at 8:00 pm. We expect the weather to be perfect that night, so we'll meet on the patio under the awning. Barbeque will be available, and PBS members attending the meeting will get a discount ($5 admission) to see Chicago blues great Lil' Ed right after the meeting. We hope to see you there!
The deadline to enter the Arizona Blues Showdown is coming up real soon. Early indications are that this year's event, scheduled for November 7th & 14th at the Rhythm Room, will be one of the strongest ever. Acts still wanting to enter should visit the PBS website to download an application and rules in MS Word format. Blues fans will want to mark those dates on the calendar, as this year's Showdown will be one NOT to miss! The complete schedule for the preliminary rounds will be sent out in about a week.
Big Nick & The Gila Monsters appear at Char's Has the Blues on Friday, October 22nd. The Monsters will then be part of the First Press Wine Auction at the Westin Kierland Resort on Saturday, October 23rd (visit www.firstpressarizona.com for more info). The band will later head to the hills for a Halloween Party at the Strawberry Chalet in Strawberry on Saturday, October 30th. Lil' Debbie & Blue Plate Special will be at Pappadeux Seafood Restaurant, 11501 N. Black Canyon Highway in Phoenix from 6:00 until 10:00 pm on Friday, October 22nd. The next night the band will be at Pat Murphy's starting at 9:30 pm, followed on Sunday with a 7:00 pm gig at AmVets Post 5, 3805 S. 16th St. in Phoenix. Cold Shott & The Hurricane Horns will be at Barcelona's on Friday, October 22nd from 8:00 pm until 12:30 am. The Cold Shott cats will be taking part in the annual Masquerade Party at the Phoenix Zoo on Saturday, October 30th from 8:00 until midnight. Check the KESZ-FM site for complete details. Texas blues legend W.C. Clark is appearing at the Rhythm Room on Tuesday, October 26th. Tickets are available for $10 at the bar or from Ticketmaster.
Poppy and the Usual Suspects can be seen on "Uncovered," which features Arizona's hottest cover bands, on the WB6 on Wednesday, November 17th, 24th and December 1st. All shows air at 9:00 pm and a repeat of each show will be on the following Saturday at 11:00 pm. |
